Purchasing a car has always been one of those undesirable things that has to occasionally be carried out, and frequently many of us wind up having to pay a lot more than we need to, due to the sales methods that we are subjected too. For example the ruthless sale, unwanted add-ons, dealer financing, convincing you you need to buy something which has already been in inventory (even though it isn’t what you want), and so on.

This provides you with a perception of just what other people are usually paying for the same used car, and even give you the MSRP and invoice pricing.

I then sent an email to the internet Car Dealer at that location, and I told them the VIN number of the vehicle I desired, and just how much I was willing to pay. I also explained to them that I will be trading-in my used car, and how much money I was expecting for my trade. I let them know these amounts are non-negotiable, just in case they could satisfy my amount, then please get back in contact with me.
Of course, these folks were pleased to assist, simply because exactly what I was presenting, while it was well below invoice price, was still good benefit for the Dealership. Plus, they recognized I’d done my research, consequently were less inclined to attempt to jerk me around.
I printed the email containing their acceptance of my conditions, and told them I would be in the dealership the following day to buy. You see what I did right here? I have taken the face-to-face high pressure sales BS totally out from the equation. It is harder to rattle someone’s nerves by way of email than in person to person, so do all of your negotiation via e-mail whenever possible.
When I got to the dealership, they attempted to get me with a high rate of interest, but since I’d obtained pre-approval from my bank for a lower rate, they’d no leverage. They actually wound up beating the bank’s interest rate! Sweet!!!
In addition they attempted to offer me less for my trade, nevertheless I just waved the printed email before them and was 100% prepared to walk away without buying their car…. They caved in.
As you can imagine, I obtained an excellent interest rate, full value for my trade, and well below invoice for the price of the used car. It turned out the very best car-buying experience I’ve ever had, and I felt like I came out a victorious.
One final words of advice… Always obtain GAP Insurance cover when purchasing a new car. As soon as you drive the vehicle from the Dealership, it is worth a lot less than the total amount you have financed, so you want to make certain that should you somehow total your car, that the entire loan value is insured, not only just what the car is worth. There can be quite a GAP of 1000s of dollars, hence the term “GAP” insurance.
